Using Your Own Router or Mesh

Written by Inez

Using your own equipment ⚙

If you’ve invested in your own advanced router or mesh system, you’re welcome to use it with Brillband. Please note that our support will mainly cover the equipment we provide.

Recommended setup: using the eero alongside your own equipment

For the best performance and support, we recommend keeping the eero as your main router connected directly to the ONT, and integrating your own equipment where needed

Using your own router or mesh with eero:

1. Connect your equipment to the eero

  • Use a Cat 6 (or higher) Ethernet cable.

  • Connect your own router or mesh system to one of the eero’s Ethernet ports.

2. Use a separate WiFi name (SSID)

  • Set your own system to broadcast a different SSID (WiFi name) than the eero. This helps avoid conflicts.

  • It also ensures your equipment is working as intended by the manufacturer.

3. Managing WiFi on the eero

  • WiFi settings can be managed through the eero app.

  • You can adjust or disable wireless functionality as needed.

  • If WiFi is disabled, your eero will continue to support wired (Ethernet) connections as normal.

  • This can depend on your setup and may vary if the eero is in bridge mode or a different configuration. (Bridge mode is when the eero stops acting as your main router and instead passes routing responsibilities to another device).

  • For most users, we recommend using the eero app rather than manual changes, as this ensures settings are applied correctly and persist after updates or reboots.

Important notes

  • The eero must remain connected directly to the ONT to ensure full service support.

  • Running the eero in bridge mode may not be supported in all Brillband configurations due to required network services.

  • If the eero is disconnected from the ONT, performance and service guarantees may be affected.
