You can use your own equipment
If you've invested time, money and brain power towards building a system of advanced routers and mesh devices within your home then you may want to continue using them.
We can only give thorough support for the equipment that we provide, so our help will be limited if you choose to use your own kit.
Linking the eero
It would be ideal to incorporate our router into your set-up so that we can offer better assistance.
1. Wire your WiFi equipment to the eero
Use a Cat 6 (or above) ethernet cable to connect your WiFi equipment directly to the eero via the ethernet port at the back.
2. Run a separate SSID
We don't suggest using the same SSID as the eero.
Instead, run a separate SSID to ensure your equipment performs as the manufacturer has designed.
3. Deactivating the eero WiFi
If you want to deactivate the eero WiFi but still have active wired connections, make sure the router is fully set up and powered on then press the reset button 8 times.
The eero will reboot and the LED will flash white as the WiFi is off in Networked Standby mode.
To return to normal WiFi mode, simply restart the router. This is hard-coded into the eero and it can't be changed, so you'll need to follow the steps above to turn the eero WiFi off again.
The eero may reboot when receiving remote software updates. Please keep remote updates on so that your eero can stay updated with the latest eero security.
Please note
eeros must be directly connected to the ONT (as per installation) for it to be considered a supported service. If it isn't, you'll be asked to revert to this set-up before troubleshooting.
Running our router in bridge mode is not a supported solution as the eero interacts with the core for VLAN, DHCP, and NAT services.
If you disconnect the eero from the ONT, you'll void your minimum speed guarantee as we will lose visibility of your network activity.
