Using Your Own WiFi Equipment
If you've invested in advanced routers or mesh systems, you're welcome to continue using your own equipment with Brillband. However, please note our support will be limited to the equipment we provide.
Recommended Setup: Linking the eero
For optimal support and performance, we suggest incorporating the eero router into your existing setup:
1. Connect Your Equipment to the eero
-
Use a Cat 6 (or higher) Ethernet cable to connect your own router or mesh system directly to the eero’s Ethernet port.
2. Use a Separate SSID
-
Set up your own router or mesh system to broadcast a different SSID (WiFi name) than the eero. This ensures your device works as intended by the manufacturer.
3. Turning Off eero WiFi
-
To disable the eero’s WiFi while keeping wired connections active:
-
Ensure your eero is fully set up and powered on.
-
Press the reset button 8 times in succession.
-
The eero will reboot and the LED will flash white, indicating WiFi is off (Networked Standby mode).
-
-
To re-enable WiFi, simply restart the eero.
-
Note: You'll need to repeat these steps if the eero reboots due to automatic software updates (which we recommend keeping enabled for security purposes).
Important Notes:
-
The eero must remain directly connected to the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) as installed to be considered supported.
-
Using the eero in bridge mode isn't supported as essential network services (VLAN, DHCP, NAT) depend on the eero.
-
Disconnecting the eero from the ONT will void your minimum speed guarantee due to loss of network visibility.
